How does a Halftime Hypnosis show work?

In the words of Elyse Meyers, "Thanks so much for asking, I would love to tell you."

Hypnosis shows, historically speaking, have always had a long "induction" and "deepening" period at the beginning of the performance where the hypnotist selects volunteers based on a series of tests and then proceeds to bring them into a profound hypnotic state. Halftime shows simply don't have 15 minutes to bring people into the right frame of mind to then finally get the show started. So below, we've outlined how it all works in steps to provide a greater understanding of the whole process and how we're able to achieve such an impressive performance in such a short time.

The First Time-Out & Before

Before the start of the game, the announcer will tell the crowd that there will be an opportunity for fans to actively participate in the halftime performance and to be ready for their chance.

The first time-out comes and our hypnotist enters "center stage" with a wireless microphone to invite anyone who wants to participate in the show to take part in an "imagination experiment" where he will do a shortened version of the usual hypnotic tests. Fans who successfully achieve what is required for the show are selected by helpers.

Pre-Hypnosis

Those selected are then taken out to be pre-hypnotized and tested further by the hypnotist in a private room as a group. Here, they are given a post-hypnotic suggestion to be able to enter right back into this state instantly upon the hypnotist's command. This ensures the show flows quickly and effortlessly. This is also where the hypnotically strongest are selected and the rest sent back to their seats. Generally around 8 participants are chosen out of this group.

Showtime!

Those chosen for the performance will sign a waiver and be led court-side prior to the show's start time. Once the break for halftime hits, helpers set up the chairs and bring the volunteers out to the hypnotist at center court (or field). The hypnotist will quickly explain that the volunteers have been pre-hypnotized to match the pace of the show - and then it begins! Sound cues are handled by the hypnotist's assistant for the show.

Post-Show

Once the show is completed, the volunteers follow the hypnotist back to the room where they were tested and he checks in with them to make sure everyone has come fully back to full conscious awareness prior to going back to their seats to enjoy the game.

While hypnosis is a natural state of mind and no one can actually stay "stuck" in it for long, everyone responds to the sensation of being hypnotized differently. We are insured and take every precaution to ensure safety standards are met each step of the way.
